This year, I went to Mount KK again in June. I know.. that was like past few months back but I was too lazy to blog about it.

We went up from Mesilau Gate, and rested at Laban Rata. This year I did some training before going up thus it was not as difficult as the previous year. :)

It didn’t rain, the trail seems to be slightly different and the weather was great. The view was spectacular, as it was not cloudy, we are able to see the beautiful mountains and greeneries as we hike along Mesilau Trail. At the summit, we are so lucky that we can see the a triangle reflection of the Mount KK, or called pyramid ( we were told not everyone is as lucky!! LOL ) . See the photo below, you can actually spot the moon :D

The midnight hike was amazing, with many other hikers going up together. We started our midnight hike slightly late, was almost 3am then. It wasn’t as cold as the previous year, breathing was much easier as well as I hike up. *yipee*

Again, I was so lucky that this particular night was full moon, and I can see the beautiful round moon up in the sky, shining on us. As I hike up the mountain, I recall my previous memories of hiking up with a group of friends, and we see stars, many many stars spread across the sky, bright and all of them seem so close to us. We felt just like in heaven lying down on the mountain looking up to the sky. As I’m writing this blog, I can remember how beautiful the moon and the stars were on the two separate trips I went.

It certainly a very worthwhile trip. Hopefully, I am fit enough to go there again!

Gunung Kledang

I went to hike the Gunung Kledang last weekend, at Ipoh, Menglembu town. Together with few friends and the PAC members from Penang, we were guided by the Menglembu Kledang Joggers group.

Had quite a lot of good food around the town and ate a lot at Ipoh Garden. The famous hor fun, chee chung fun was good, dumplings, ice kacang (I still prefer Penang or Malacca ice kacang. hehe).

Initially, I thought the path was just the simple hike, just like trail to Penang Hill. Unexpectedly, the Menglembu Kledang Joggers group opened a new hiking trail on their own and guide us through the mountain trail.

It was fun, but I wasn’t well prepared! Thank God for their hospitality and help, I managed to reach the summit. In this trip, I learnt about leech prevention as well. To prevent from leech, we can apply the chlorophyll soap, known as soap 909 or soap 999 available at groceries shops. Mix the soap with some water, and apply it around our shoes and the leech will not come near us! Of course I didn’t get any bite leeches in this trip. I’m still a leech virgin! hohoho.

Hike from Air Itam to Sg Pinang

I joined the Penang Adventurers Club for a hike from Air Itam, starting from the bottom of Kek Lok Si all the way to Air Itam Dam, then will go through Tiger Hill and finally down to Sg Pinang.

We started our journey at 8am in the morning. The trek up to Air Itam takes about 45 minutes of leisure walk. Along the way, you will meet many other hikers and there are just so many early birds (yaa still early for me..) who jog around Air Itam Dam.

Walk anti clockwise from and you will find a path to go to Tiger Hill on your right. There is just one path to go, so no worries about getting lost. It’s best to go with your friends as it may be quite boring at this part. Once you reached Tiger Hill, there will be 3 paths for you to go.. One to Penang Hill, another to Sg Pinang and another God knows where (kidding.. other experience hikers would know). Of course, you may choose to U-Turn and return to Air Itam Dam, and roll all the way down to Kek Lok Si.

We continue our journey heading towards Sg Pinang. There are lots of interesting sights along the way. After the Tiger Hill, it’s downhill allllll the way. You can see Durian trees, Cocoa trees, rubber trees, and well… etc etc. Look at the photos above, and that’s not all. You will pass by many farms along the way, but the weather can be hot or worse.. rain ;)

The whole journey takes about 3 hours, but once you reached Sg Pinang, you can take a bus to Balik Pulau to the main bus terminal, and transfer to other bus back to your home.

Bukit Tabur East

Last weekend, I went hiking at Bukit Tabur. I have never been there before. There are two routes to reach the peak, one is the east side and the other, obviously the west side. We head towards the east side of Bukit Tabur. It was known to be less steep compared to the west side.

So up we went, the route is quite tough (for me).. the rest of the guys, they go up the hill as if they are just walking on tar road. =.=”

The place is interesting I have to say, with nice view. There are no leeches or bees or ghosts ( I didn’t see any).  The beginning of the path is quite easy, but as you go higher up, you have to use the rope to help you up. The sceneries are beautiful~ but the weather is getting warmer. Blame it on us for starting our journey late :p

On my way down, I have difficulties.. finding my steps. Luckily there are experienced hikers around, guiding me where to step with my trembling legs and my pair of sandals. I get scratches and bruises from knocking myself against the rocky mountain. I sure do wish the rocky mountain I mentioned here refers to the ice cream cake in Coffee Club, but no, this Bukit Tabur is a rocky mountain. We have to use rope at certain part of the mountain to climb up and down.. According to one of the experienced hikers, he advised me not to rely on the rope, rely on my legs and hands to grip and climb down.  I felt like a spiderwoman. Woohoo!! But no.. I feel too insecure not to rely on the rope. I have no confidence with the strength of my arms and my legs..

Anyway, I got down from the mountain in one piece. Still alive. It was fun, I do encourage those who like trekking to try this. But be very careful… there are people who went and died from falling down.

Hike Mount Kinabalu Day 2

We woke up at 12.30am, preparing ourselves for the climb to the summit. I was excited as well as afraid I couldn’t make it to the summit. Had a light breakfast, put on headlights, warm clothes and our guide gave a short explanation regarding the hike to the summit. It was cold and dark, when we started our hike at around 2am plus. The hike was quite steep that I have to bend down to feel the rocks and push myself up. I’m feeling nausea and cold, and I told my friends to go on first as I know I will slow them down. I do not know why I’m feeling nausea at that point of time. It gets worse when I reached the part where I have to hold on to the ropes to hike. Then I realize that it might be because I kept bending my body down, and I felt dizzy and nausea. So I tried to stand up straight, avoid bending down too many times. I felt better after a while, trying to stand up straight during the hike instead of bending down. At one point I decided not to use the rope as I have to bend down to hold on to the ropes.
After feeling a bit better, I tried to pace up and met Dan and Nic at sayat-sayat check point. From here, 3 of us hike up together. We climbed higher and higher, and when I looked down, I saw many lights from other hikers’ headlights, coming up in a line. It looks like little ants coming up a hill. It was a beautiful sight, but I have no energy to take out my camera to take a picture. My legs were really tired and I rested pretty often on my way up. At this point, I don’t really know if I can reach the summit before the sunrise. I dragged each step up the mountain, and the summit seems to be quite far away. I kept walking step by step and again, there are other hikers who passed by with a Hi and Bye.
Everytime I stopped for a rest, I look up to the front, to the back, and to the sky. There are a lot of stars in the sky. The feeling is just indescribable. Stars are all on top of me, they seem very near to me. So near and yet so far, just like the summit. It was a magical experience for me to see something like this on the sky. Readers may not understand how I feel at this moment, but I would say, you need to see it for yourself. When I look up, I knew all the hard work is so worth it, just to see the beautiful stars in the sky. I will never forget how the sky looks like at that moment. I was hoping it will never go away.
When I look to the front, there are people who tried to pace up so that they could reached the summit earlier, and when I look back, there are people struggling to hike up, panting heavily.
After some time, I finally can see the summit. I was so excited, and have a sudden boast of energy to reach the top. Despite being extremely tired, I wanted to be there at the summit, to see the sunrise. I think I reached the summit around 5.45am, and the sky is getting brighter by now. A bit disappointed that I couldn’t reach the summit before 5.30am, but oh well at least I made it up here.
It was freezing cold, despite me having my winter jacket, thermal wear and my winter caps on. I can’t really take any photos, as my hands are shaking as I try to press on the shutter and with the gloves on my hands, it’s even harder to shoot. The view is very beautiful. A gush of feeling just swept across me, as I felt everything is worth it now. Thinking back how painful each step is when I dragged my feet up at the first place 
[insert pic here]
This is the ugly sister peak and donkey’s ear peak. I took these pics on my way down. Going down the mountain is more difficult than I expected, as at some parts I have to hold on to the ropes to get down. We have to turn our body backwards, hold on to the ropes, and step down slowly.
Anyway, the important point is the summit. We made it there, and I’m glad we did.  I hope you will too.
