The day before delivery, my hamster, Siu Mai, looks really bloated. I was shocked as well, thought how come she became so fat.. then I suspected that she might be pregnant. I cleaned her cage that morning, and cooked boiled egg for her.

This morning, I woke up around 7am plus and saw a little baby in the corner of the cage!!! I shred more tissue paper for her. Then about 30 minutes later, the second baby is out!! I am so so excited for her!!

OK.. then the number of babies keep increasing.. O.M.G….  total of 8 babies by lunch time.. O.M.G.

She looks tired, but doing well..   the babies look really really cute. Baby hamsters are tiny, eyes are not opened yet, fur-less and certainly very fragile.

Penang Bridge International Marathon 2010

On 21st November, once again it’s the annual Penang Bridge International Marathon (PBIM). It is one of the largest event held in Penang every year since 1985. This year there are about 23,500 participants!! Just imagine how flooded the little island will be :D

This is the first year I participated in Full Marathon. I have been tempted to participate in Full Marathon, but did not have the courage to do so until this year.. LOL

However, due to my laziness and ill-prepared training, my legs start to cramp at 25km mark and each step is dragging me down but I’m determined to reach the finishing line before 6 hours. It was such an experience that it started to rain heavily and this is the first time I ran a marathon under heavy rain. I have to say.. it was really fun! I feel refreshed, picking up speed and didn’t feel much dehydrated (probably due to the free flow of water from the sky :D ).

Each time I run a marathon, I learn about life from the experience. I really love running a marathon. I have told myself I wanted to retire from marathon after completing a full marathon but I doubt it’s going to happen.. hehe..

I completed the full marathon in 5 hours 40 minutes. I hope to be better prepared next year.. and to achieve a better result for myself.. after all, a marathon it’s my own race :D

Marathon is not a race with other runners, it’s an experience in with other runners in a life challenging event. Enjoy each step, feel good to be alive and have fun!

I got myself 2 hamsters today, have been thinking about it for quite a while but contemplating if I will be committed to take care of them.

After much thoughts, I bought 2 hamsters. I chose the hamsters which came over to my hand when I put my hand down into the cage in the pet shop.

Total of 3 hamsters, I asked the shop assistant to help me choose 2 of the 3 of with the same gender. So.. there ! Got my hamsters, my new pet :D

I named one of them “Siu Mai”, the smaller one.. and the bigger in size I named it “Har Kao” (Names of Chinese Dim Sum) :p

Not long after that… it turns out that one of my hamster is female (Siu Mai) and the other (Har Kao) is male. O.M.G….  thus there will be more O.M.G posts coming up in future.

Hamster in Bathing Sand

Hamster in Bathing Sand

This is their bathing sand, don’t ever bathe them in water. The bathing sand is good enough to keep them from being smelly. Sand bath comes in a lot of variations. You will need to try to see which one is best for your hamster. Choose the tinier grains, or softer ones. Caring for hamster is just like caring for a human, baby human. It’s our pet anyway.. part of us in the family :D

They love to eat sunflower seeds (or it’s called Kua Ci in chinese), buy the unsalted ones from pet shop. Dry food, I mix with oats for them, fresh corn cut into pieces and veggies like Kak Kua (not sure what it is called in english, you can see from the pic) and brocolli. Each hamster has different preference on food, just like we human thus you will need to  observe and see which food they like best.

As for the bedding, some pet shop owners will advise you to use cat litter. Don’t!! It’s harmful to the little animals. Wood shavings are not the best options either, as it contains saw dust. I would think the best option will be lots tissue paper actually.. >”<  Buy the type that does not have a lot of debris when you shred it. However, if you are going to get wood shavings, get the softer type. The first type I bought was quite hard, fearing that will poke the hamsters and make them uncomfortable, I bought another one and I think they prefer the new wood shavings. Seeing them digging into the bedding :D

Laman Padi is one of the places you should visit if you go to Langkawi. Laman Padi is located at Chenang Beach, or known as Pantai Chenang. You will not be able to miss it if you drive along Chenang Beach :)

We decided to visit Laman Padi one morning, instead of evening because the padi suppose to be fresher in the morning :D

Unfortunately at the time we went, it was not the harvest season thus all the padi is still in at the “growing stage”. The whole place is open for visitors to walk around, and there are water pipes for you to wash your feet.

There are “orang-orang” or scarecrow in the paddy field, to scare away the crows (that’s why it’s called scarecrow.. ) .

Be careful of the ants on the ground, which might crawl up to your feet. I just stood a moment without walking and didn’t realize I was stepping on the ants’ nest and many ants start to crawl up and bite me. Ouch!! Plus I was wearing slippers at that time. Luckily they have water pipes around where I can wash my feet but the itchiness was quite bad.

Overall, laman padi is worth visiting. Oh.. you don’t have to step into the mud. They have pathway for you to walk on, unless you fell on your own into the mud :D Then you might have the chance to taste the cow’s dung.

Unkaizan Japanese Restaurant is a famous  Japanese Restaurant in Langkawi, probably among the tourists. The restaurant is located at the hillside with stunning sunset views over the Andaman Sea. Guests will be able to enjoy the beautiful sunset while enjoying their dinner.

You may choose to be seated at the Seaview Terrance with western seating, or in the air conditioned main room or the air conditioned upstairs area where the seating is styled in traditional Japanese style. We opt for the traditional Japanese style seating area. We are suppose to take off our shoes, and the waitress bring over the menu while explaining to us the promotions of the day. Unkaizan serves fresh or even live seafood (no, we didn’t try that), steaks, and other Japanese dishes. Tea is served in the Japanese teapot and rice is cooked in traditional hotpot.

Sushi

The environment was really good, with good service as well. However everything in the menu seems to be a bit pricey. We had the sushi set, tempura soba, and teppanyaki but I felt we could get the similar taste from places like Sushi Zanmai or Ichiban Boshi. Perhaps they are famous for their live or fresh seafood that we did not try. :)
