We woke up bright and early, and we did not take our bath because it’s freezing cold. It’s only 6 am, and as you can see from the pic below, it’s quite bright, looks like 7 or 8am in Penang. We get ready, prepare our stuff, and went to have our breakfast before starting off our journey.

This is our group photo before we started off climbing the long hours hike of Mount KK. We started our climb from Mesilau Gate, which is 2km more than starting off from Timpohon Gate. However, Mesilau Gate has nicer view compared to Timpohon where Timpohon route are all stairs. Though our guide told us that Mesilau Gate is tougher to hike compared to Timpohon, I will still advise my friends to take the Mesilau route as it is far more interesting. Starting off, we are all smiling happily, not knowing how long or difficult the journey will be.  Look at the path, it’s getting tougher and tougher..

At 6km, we reached the meeting point between Timpohon Gate and Mesilau Gate. We were so happy we reached this point! At here, we were already exhausted, but we have two more km before we can reach our rest house at Laban Rata. Here is the path we are heading up from this point onwards

We get more and more tired, and we rested even more frequently. There are times we felt like giving up, but you know, there’s no turning back because that will take you another few hours. We dragged our feet up, step by step and everytime we thought we have reached, but no, there are just more and more stairs in front of us. I don’t really know how to describe my feelings at this point of time. I seriously regretted for not being properly trained for the hike.

During our hike, we met a lot of other hikers, and we said Hi and Bye. It was really nice meeting them, as they actually gave me some motivation somehow. Had a little chat with people sometimes when we rested, and it’s always good to know everyone is determined to hike up to the summit.

At 5.10pm, we finally reached the rest house. I was so so happy, sat down, rest and ate my food before being told that we need to climb another 150m to reach the our lodge. Oh NO!!!! Another climb gonna kill me. Thank God the porters helped us to bring up our bags to the lodge. Crawling and panting, we finally reached the lodge. It was so cold that I felt headache. Tried to sleep but I couldn’t, and in the end I popped a panadol and go to sleep at 10.30pm.
