On the first day, everyone is excited about the trip to Kota Kinabalu. We woke up early in the morning and head to the airport to catch our plane. We are flying off with JetStar, departure time is 7.20am. We reached Kota Kinabalu at 9.20am, and we head directly to our backpackers’ lodge, North Borneo Cabin.

We start unpacking some of our stuff, took our bath, and a friend of ML is coming over to join us for lunch. We went to have lunch at a place nearby, and we ordered this 3 colored drink.

3 Layered Teh Peng
3 Layered Teh Peng

The drink is actually Teh Peng (Ice Tea) and it tastes good. The top layer is the tea, second layer (white layer) is the milk, and the last layer tastes like wheat grass with gula Melaka.

I ordered curry mee, which tastes well, like curry mee. But it’s good, just look at the pic below. Eric ordered char koay teow, which I personally do not like the taste of the char koay teow. Probably because being born in a place famous of char koay teow, I am quite particular about the taste of char koay teow. ML ordered dried noodles. This is not bad as well. Yummy.

After our lunch, Amelia and Tiong took us around KK town. We went to Philippines market and walk around the Sunday market. Look at their binjal! It’s round in shape, unlike the ones I usually see, which are long.

We walked pass Jesselton point, where the locals go out for fishing here and they transport people who wants to visit the other islands (illegally)
Moving on, there are a stretch of shops selling dried seafood, handicrafts, souvenirs, etc. As you can see from the pic below, there are people sitting along the streets with sewing machine, providing the sewing service to whoever needed it.
